RAFE, The Rebel
Rafe, the film's protagonist, is a creative kid with a slight problem with authority and a big imagination. The story begins when Rafe transfers to a new rule-obsessed middle school run by a tyrannical, pro-test, anti-creativity principal. Rafe soon becomes a rebel who, along with his partner in crime Leo, sets out to stick it to the man and break every single one of the school's rules. On top of all the mischief, he is also dealing with his mom's boisterous new boyfriend Bear while trying to win the heart of the studious go-getter Jeanne.
LEO, The Partner in Crime
Leo is Rafe's best friend and partner in crime. The "little devil on his shoulder," he encourages Rafe to break the rules. He's got a roguish air and a great sense of humor but in spite of his troublemaking tendencies, he truly cares about Rafe more than anyone else in school.
JEANNE, The Overachiever
One of Rafe's best friends at Hills Valley Middle School, Jeanne is smart, hard working and obsessed with the arts. She is outspoken, motivated, and stands up for what she believes in. As she joins Rafe in his creative rule breaking campaign the pair begin to develop something of a crush on one another.
MILLER, The Tough Guy
"Miller the Killer" is the school bully and Rafe's hallway nemesis. Miller seems a bit threatened that there is a new trouble maker in school, but his attitude may change when he starts to see the advantage of joining forces with Rafe.
GEORGIA, The Firecracker
Georgia, Rafe's younger sister, is a spunky force of nature (who also happens to have a penchant for underage car driving). Although she can annoy her brother, she is ultimately protective of him and her mom Jules. With the aide of her pug, "Mr. Giggles," she takes it upon herself to help her mom discover what her loudmouthed boyfriend Bear is really like.
JULES, The Mom
Jules is Rafe and Georgia's loving single mom. She is facing her own struggles while keeping the family together, training to be a chef, and dating a man - who unbeknownst to her - may not care for her kids as much as she thinks. But when it comes down to it, she will do anything to protect her kids.
CARL aka BEAR, The Moocher
Carl (aka Bear) is Jules two-faced, moochy, jack-of-no-trades boyfriend turned fiance. He turns on the charm in front of Jules, but Rafe and Georgia quickly come to see him for the slimy, no good guy that he is. Basically, Bear loves Bear, his beloved muscle car and nothing else.
PRINCIPAL DWIGHT, The Big Bad Guy
Principal Dwight is the tyrannical principal of the middle school whose only priority is to ensure that his school achieves the top score on the latest standardized achievement tests. Dwight is also known for making sure the students stringently follow his strict set of rules, even if he himself is willing to break a few rules (and laws!) to get his way. As such, he becomes Rafe's biggest enemy and triggers his quest to break every rule in the books.
MR. TELLER, The Cool Teacher
Mr. Teller is the anti-Principal Dwight. He is the dedicated teacher who cares about and listens to his students, particularly Rafe who takes an immediate liking to him. His methods of teaching are based on creative thought and expression, not rules and testing. He wants the students to learn for the sake of learning, not for the sake of passing a standardized test. His laid back approach gets him into hot water with strict Principal Dwight, but it may be Teller who gets the last laugh.
GUS, The All Knowing
Gus is the school groundskeeper who is constantly bullied and bossed around by Principal Dwight. Gus seems to enjoy the pranks being pulled around the school, much to the dismay of Dwight. Finally fed up with the way he is treated, he teams up with Rafe and the gang to take down the overbearing principal once and for all. He is also a multi-disciplined PhD candidate.
STRICKER, The Sidekick
Ida Stricker is the school's librarian and hall monitor who doesn't let the kids get away with anything. She is Principal Dwight's sidekick and the enforcer of all his rules. She will do and agree with anything Dwight says, which may have something to do with her romantic feelings towards him...
